Bolsonaro should spend New Year’s Eve in the hospital, says medical team

Former president Jair Bolsonaro is expected to spend New Year’s Eve admitted to the DF Star Hospital, for post-operative monitoring of the surgery and procedures he underwent in recent days. The recommendation comes from the former president’s medical team, which hopes that Bolsonaro will only be discharged on January 1, 2026.

Bolsonaro underwent a phrenic nerve procedure on Monday afternoon, the 29th, to alleviate his hiccups. After the treatment, the three doctors who make up the former chief executive’s team held a press conference.

“We are working with the hypothesis that, if there are no new complications, he will stay until Thursday,” said Cláudio Birolini, the former president’s doctor.

According to the team, Bolsonaro will be under observation for the next 24 to 48 hours to analyze the behavior of the hiccups. According to them, if there is improvement, possible future procedures will be discussed.

Also according to the team, Bolsonaro must undergo a new endoscopy between this Tuesday, 30th and Wednesday, 31st. This morning, the former president re-did the polysomnography exam, to study sleep apnea. Doctors indicated that Bolsonaro has severe apnea, with 50 episodes of sleep interruption per hour, including an obstructive pattern. Therefore, the former president must stay in the hospital for the next few days, sleeping with CEPAP-style equipment.
