Bolsonaro will not run away from the US for not “bearing staying away from Michelle,” says Jornal
Former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) told allies that he does not consider fleeing to the United States if he is convicted of the Supreme Federal Court (STF), as his surroundings fears. The reason, he said, would be the impossibility of remaining close to his wife, Michelle Bolsonaro.
“I can’t stand to stay away from Michelle,” said the former president, according to a report published by columnist Monica Bergamo, from S.Paulo Folha. The former first lady is appointed as a candidate for the Senate and also quoted to run for the Presidency of the Republic in 2026.
Bolsonaro would have reinforced that, given the perspective of prison, he prefers to wait for a possible amnesty in Brazil, even under home regime.

PGR calls for conviction
On Tuesday (14), the Attorney General’s Office presented to the Supreme Court the final allegations of the process investigating the alleged attempted coup after the 2022 elections. In the document, Attorney General Paulo Gonet classifies Bolsonaro as the “maximum leader” of a criminal organization and requests his conviction.
The expectation is that the judgment of the so -called “crucial core” of the plot will take place in the second semester. If the conviction occurs, Bolsonaro’s arrest could be decreed until October.
Discarded asylum
The possibility of Bolsonaro asking for political asylum to the United States is not discarded by the STF ministers or his closest allies. Since President Donald Trump has publicly defended Bolsonaro and called him a victim of political persecution, the hypothesis was more seriously treated.
However, according to interlocutors, the former president has stated that the emotional factor-especially the presence of his wife and family-weighs more than any escape plan. For him, serving a possible sentence in Brazil would allow to maintain the conviviality with Michelle and receive frequent visits from children, such as Deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP), who currently lives in the United States.
