Boulos criticizes Nunes about the blackout; mayor cancels agenda to monitor impacts

Federal deputy and candidate for Mayor of São Paulo Guilherme Boulos (PSOL) criticized mayor Ricardo Nunes (MDB), candidate for re-election, for the blackout that has hit several neighborhoods in the capital of São Paulo and the metropolitan region since the night of Friday, 11 , and left residents without power for more than 12 hours.

In a post on Instagram, Boulos pointed out “Enel’s responsibility, this company tragedy that everyone knows about”, but criticized Nunes for being “a weak mayor, who does not impose himself”.

The PSOL candidate also said that the São Paulo City Council’s pruning service is inefficient. “The richest city in Brazil cannot prune trees,” said the federal deputy. “It doesn’t do the basics.”

Nunes, in turn, used his social networks to announce that he had been monitoring, through official meteorological reports, the situation of the storms that hit the city. This Saturday, the 12th, Nunes canceled a campaign commitment during the morning to remain at the Smart Sampa Monitoring Center. “The rains have stopped, but our work has not”, the mayor’s profile published this morning.

The emedebista did not respond to his opponent’s criticisms either on social media or through his press office after being contacted by Estadão.

The rain also caused changes to the PSOL candidate’s agenda. Campaign commitments in the east zone scheduled for this Saturday, the 12th, were cancelled. Boulos’ visits were planned to the Jardim Três Marias, Jardim Alto Alegre and Fazenda da Juta neighborhoods. Instead, the federal deputy will visit regions affected by rain and windstorms and speak to the press in the Campo Limpo region.

The city of São Paulo recorded more than 200 calls for falling trees and branches since Friday’s rains. The storm killed one person in the capital and three in Bauru. Enel did not release a balance of affected properties, but scheduled a press conference for this Saturday morning. In the most recent note, published on Friday, the concessionaire pointed out that “entire sections of the electrical network were damaged in some points”.
