Braga Netto’s defense denies obstruction in investigations
General Walter Braga Netto’s defense lawyers released a note, this Saturday afternoon (14), in which they expressed their belief in “due legal process” and that “we will have the opportunity to prove that there was no obstruction to the investigations”.
Lawyers Luís Henrique Cesar Prata, Gabriela Leonel Venâncio and Francisco Eslei de Lima, all from Prata Advocacia, in Brasília, announced that they became “partial” aware, in the morning, of the decision of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), and that they will speak out in the case records after “full awareness of the facts that gave rise to the decision rendered”.

The Federal Police arrested former Defense Minister and General Walter Braga Netto. He is one of the targets of the investigation investigating the attempted coup d’état in the country after the 2022 elections. Braga Netto was a candidate for vice president on the ticket with Jair Bolsonaro in the 2022 elections.

According to the Federal Police report, there are “several elements of evidence” against Braga Netto, who had acted to prevent the full elucidation of the facts, with an attempt to obstruct the investigations and “with the aim of controlling the information provided, changing the reality of the facts discovered, in addition to consolidating the alignment of versions among those investigated”.
According to STF minister Alexandre de Moraes, rapporteur of the inquiry investigating the coup plot, the developments of the investigation, starting with the “Countercoup” operation, and new testimonies from Mauro Cid, Bolsonaro’s former aide-de-camp, “revealed the very serious participation of Walter Souza Braga Netto in the facts investigated, in a true role of leadership, organization and financing, in addition to demonstrating relevant evidence that the defendant acted, repeatedly, to embarrass the investigations”.
