Brazilian woman and 2 other tourists die in hotel fire in Thailand
Carolina’s boyfriend was hospitalized after breaking his leg while fleeing the fire. He jumped from a window on the third floor of the hotel and his life is not at risk.
The fire at The Ember Hotel started at around 9:20 pm local time (11:20 am in Brasília). According to local newspaper Thairath, the fire started on the 5th floor of the building, in the district of Bang Lamphuwith a large amount of smoke spreading across all six floors.
In total, 47 people were rescued by firefighters. Also according to Thairath, 40 were removed from inside the hotel, while another seven were rescued from the building’s terrace.
The majority of guests were foreign tourists. According to Sukanya Pipattanasuk, director of the hotel, almost all accommodations at the site were occupied. In an interview with Thairath, she stated that the hotel has, in total, 48 rooms — of these, 47 were reserved and only 7 had not yet been completed. check-in.
The hotel was temporarily closed by the governor of Bangkok. Chadchart Sittipunt attended the scene of the fire with Deputy Interior Minister Teearat Samretwanich and ordered the hotel to be inoperative pending a full safety inspection.
