Carlos Lupi, from PDT, ‘announces’ PT’s support for Kalil in MG, but the acronym denies it
The president of the PDT, Carlos Lupi, stated on social media, after a meeting with the president of the PT, Edinho Silva, that his party reaffirmed the alliance for the re-election of president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva to the Presidency. In the same post, he stated that the PT had committed, at the meeting this Wednesday, 4th, to support the candidacies of Juliana Brizola, in Rio Grande do Sul, Alexandre Kalil, in Minas Gerais, and Requião Filho, in Paraná. Just over an hour later, however, Kalil went online to say, without mentioning Lupi’s post, that only whoever he wants can get on his platform. And the PT denied that it had committed to support.
“In the meeting with the national president of the PT, Edinho Silva, I reaffirmed the PDT’s alliance to re-elect President Lula and received confirmation of the PT’s commitment to support the candidacies for the government of Juliana Brizola, in Rio Grande do Sul; Alexandre Kalil, in Minas Gerais; and Requião Filho, in Paraná. With the internal formalization of the PT, in the coming days, we will move forward to win in these strategic states”, said Carlos Lupi.

When contacted, Kalil’s advisor only stated that the post was about the election, but did not comment on whether it was a reference to Lupi’s post.
The PT released a statement to confirm the meeting and the discussion about Lula’s re-election, but denying that the platforms in the state elections had been discussed.
“The conversation did not aim to define electoral platforms in the States. The definitions of state candidacies remain under debate and will be constructed in agreement with the state directories”, said the party in an official note.
Lula has already said publicly that he would like to have Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD) as a candidate from his field in Minas Gerais. The senator, however, has resisted and talked about ending his public life. Despite this, União Brasil decided to place an ally of Pacheco in command in Minas Gerais, which would open up space for the senator’s affiliation and could remove União from the alliance of Mateus Simões, vice-president of Romeu Zema (Novo) and also a pre-candidate.
