Carla Zambelli says she will present himself to the Italian authorities, says Portal

The Constitution and Justice Commission (CCJ) of the House of Representatives opened, on Monday (23), the deadline for Carla Zambelli (PL-SP) to present his defense in the process that can result in the definitive cancellation of his mandate.

The licensed deputy, sentenced by the Federal Supreme Court (STF) to 10 years in prison for crimes related to the invasion of systems of the National Council of Justice (CNJ), has been run in Italy since late May.

From this Tuesday (24), Zambelli will have up to five deliberative sessions of the plenary to file his defense and indicate evidence that he considers relevant. The count was authorized after the parliamentarian confirmed to the board last week, the receipt of the representation that is being processed in the House.

The CCJ process represents the main institutional front in the legislature to define the future of Zambelli’s mandate. Following the presentation of the defense, the commission shall appoint a rapporteur to issue an opinion on the cassation, which, if approved, will be submitted to the House Plenary.

Although the deputy is formally licensed from office, the loss of mandate will only be consolidated with the approval of the absolute majority of the house, ie 257 votes.

Parallel to the advancement of political proceedings, expectation is growing for a possible arrest of the parliamentarian. The Ministry of Justice reported that the location of Zambelli in Italian territory has already been accurately identified after its passage in Argentina and the United States.

Its name was included in Interpol’s red list, a mechanism that facilitates international cooperation for the arrest and extradition of sought after individuals.

However, detention still depends on negotiations with the Italian authorities, as Zambelli has Italian citizenship. The possibility that it will be discarded spontaneously to local authorities is not ruled out.
