Center left candidate is elected president of South Korea
Lee’s victory can mean “political realignment” of South Korea, according to international analysts. In recent years, the country has distanced itself from relations with China, while bringing ties with the United States and Japan.
During the campaign, Lee defended a more neutral position compared to China. He also said that the position of the previous government over Japan was “subservience.”
President -elect speaks of “restoring democracy in the country.” Lee, who was one of the exponents in the impeachment campaign of Yoon Suk Yeol, said he will do his best to “improve the painful lives of South Koreans as soon as possible.”
Lee Jae-Myung is 60 years old and has already ruled the province of Gyeonggithe most populous of South Korea. He is an ex-worker, who graduated in law and entered the policy of the country linked to the center-left.
