Ceron: Special retirement is not a good precedent for the pension system

BySimon Rousseau Posted onNovember 26, 2025 12:30 pm
Government closed 2024 close to the center of the fiscal target, says Ceron

The Secretary of the National Treasury, Rogério Ceron, told GloboNews that the approval of the special retirement for health agents by the Senate is not a good precedent for the pension system, regardless of the value of the fiscal impact.

“It sets a precedent to create exceptions for some groups to retire earlier than the required minimum age. It is absolutely worrying from a sustainability point of view. It is not a government discussion, but a State discussion”, he stressed.

Ceron highlighted that the project goes against discussions about the sustainability of the pension system. “With the increase in life expectancy, today it would be an increase in the retirement age, not a decrease. It is a great concern”, he reinforced.

The secretary also highlighted that the pension system must face difficult dynamics ahead, due to the increase in life expectancy, and defended the need for pension reforms. “We need to naturalize pension reforms. It cannot be taboo. It has to be adjusted as life expectancy increases.”
