CFM tells the STF that it did not want to ‘intervene’ in Bolsonaro’s sentence

Moraes schedules Bolsonaro's medical examination for the 17th after defense requests surgery

The president of the Federal Council of Medicine (CFM), José Hiran Gallo, told the Federal Supreme Court (STF) that he did not want to “intervene in the execution of the sentence” of former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) nor “exercise any correctional powers in relation to the Federal Police”.

The demonstration was sent by order of Minister Alexandre de Moraes, who also annulled an investigation opened by the council to investigate the medical care provided to Bolsonaro, after he fell in his cell and hit his head.

Moraes also ordered Gallo to give a statement to the Federal Police (PF). In the petition sent this Friday, the president of the council argues that there is “no just cause for hearing”.

Gallo states that the CFM opened the procedure after receiving four complaints, but that it did not make “any advance judgment on the facts”. The president added that the complaints later reached 40.

“The Federal Council of Medicine never intended to exercise any correctional powers in relation to the Federal Police, and there is, therefore, no intention to intervene in the execution of the sentence or to promote interference in powers constitutionally conferred on other State bodies”, says the text.
