Chamber approves basic text of project that creates national critical minerals policy
The Chamber of Deputies approved this Wednesday the main text of the bill that establishes the National Policy on Critical and Strategic Minerals, just hours before a meeting between President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and the President of the United States, Donald Trump, who should have these strategic mineral resources as one of the themes.
The text is still being analyzed by deputies, who can promote specific changes to the project.

The proposal inserts into the Brazilian legal system the definition of these resources considered essential, defines financing mechanisms and incentives and deals with licensing in the sector, in addition to providing for the creation of a Critical and Strategic Minerals Committee (CMCE), linked to the National Mineral Policy Council (CNPM), and establishing the Mineral Activity Guarantee Fund (Fgam).
The vote in the Chamber takes place on the eve of a meeting between Lula and Trump, on Thursday.
There are still no details of the meeting’s agenda, but the topics of the conversations are known. On the North American side, there is interest precisely in the exploration of critical minerals in Brazil.
