The President of the United States, Donald Trump, announced yesterday the withdrawal of the 10% charge on the import of coffee, beef, tomatoes, bananas and medicines. The fees were part of the “reciprocal tariffs” adopted in April on the so-called “Liberation Day”.

What happened

The White House adjusted the tariffs imposed on some products. The decision eliminates charges that Trump called “reciprocal.” Other tariffs followed and affected several countries, including Brazil, which has been overtaxed by 40% since August.

Trump foresees reimbursement of tariffs already charged to the markets. The American president’s statement, however, does not provide details on how the returns will be carried out. The decree was signed after trade agreements were announced to eliminate tariffs on some food and other items from Argentina, Ecuador, Guatemala and El Salvador.
