Ciro Nogueira says Flávio cannot repeat Lula and 'govern for the bubble'

The president of the PP, senator Ciro Nogueira (PI), declared this Wednesday that senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ), pre-candidate for president, needs to demonstrate that he will not “govern for the bubble” before the federation that should be formed between PP and União Brasil decides to support him.

– Senator Flávio is a dear friend of mine and Rueda, but it will depend much more on him demonstrating that he is coming to unify the country, that he is going to do something different from what is there. He cannot be a new Lula, who will only govern for his bubble, he has to be a person who will govern for the country – he declared at an event in Brasília.

Flávio has been competing for the lead in voting intention polls with President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, but has not yet received a public announcement of support from any party other than the PL.

PP, União Brasil, Republicans and PSD articulated a presidential candidacy for the governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans), but the plan was canceled after former president Jair Bolsonaro did not endorse the strategy and preferred to launch his son. Now the parties are not ruling out support for Flávio, but they are still in negotiations to decide whether they will embark on the PL presidential project.

Nogueira mentioned the period of electoral conventions as a deadline, which begins in July and ends at the beginning of August and is when the parties will officially make their decisions.

– We will have until the conventions, which are in August, to make this assessment. This issue of (Flávio’s) vice-president is not the most important thing for us, it is much more important for someone to come and build a project for our country and who can lead us to victory than just being part of a majority ticket.

Ciro also said that the federation will not support Lula.

– We will not be, at least in my opinion, with the current president. This is already a peaceful point for all of us.

Present at the same event, the president of União Brasil, Antonio Rueda, said that the focus of the parties is to reach agreements that guarantee a large group of parliamentarians in Congress.

– We are very focused on state platforms, this is our initial focus. We sought this federation, of course, initially thinking about a presidential candidacy and always being part of a majority ticket at the national level, but we wanted to protect this moment so that we could save all our energy to create a large group in Congress.
