Ciro Nogueira says it is “impossible” Tarcisio not to dispute Planalto in 2026
PP’s senator and president, Ciro Nogueira, said on Tuesday, that he considers the governor of Sao Paulo, Tarcisio de Freitas (Republicans), to stop running for the Presidency of the Republic in 2026. During an interview with GloboNews, the senator stressed that Tarcisio will only be a candidate if he has explicit support from former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL).
“If (Tarcisio) does not want to, it won’t be. But I find it impossible to happen. If we create the political environment, with the support of the center parties and President Bolsonaro, there is no way to refuse,” said the senator. “He has 40% ignorance, 20% less rejection that Lula and is tied in the polls. In such a polarized scenario, he is unbeatable,” he said.
The chief executive has been publicly denied and for some allies the intention to run for Planalto Palace next year. However, the negative position is not seen as definitive behind the scenes.

Eduardo Bolsonaro uses Trump’s letter to criticize amnesty bill
The document dated July 9, 2025, Trump praised Jair Bolsonaro, calling him a “highly respected” leader and criticized the accusations against the former president
Throughout the conversation, Ciro Nogueira denied being interested in being a candidate for vice president on the Tarcisio plate, but also made the caveat that “the deputy cannot bring rejection” when asked if the potential deputy would be someone with the surname Bolsonaro.
He stressed that the right should pay attention and respect the polls, since the rejection of the former president is “very strong” because of the tariff imposed by Donald Trump and defended by licensed federal deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP).
The senator stated that, in his political field, the competitive names today are Tarcisio and the governor of Paraná, Ratinho Jr. (PSD), both “practically tied” with President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (PT) in polls.
He said, this is not a personal preference, but a decision that will be up to former President Bolsonaro, who will be responsible for “listening to leaders”, “respecting research” and “considering the feeling of the population” before defining the best candidate.
However, the president of the PP said Tarcisio would “not betray” Jair. He also added that if the governor receives this mission from the entire political group, he has no doubt that the governor will run for office and will be elected easily.
He disregarded the strength of the demonstrations against amnesty and the proposal of Constitutional Amendment (PEC) of the shield of September 21 and said that the federal government took advantage of the tariff to recover popularity.
“There is a hysteria from the press and the left with these demonstrations. They caught a ride in a popular will against the armor PEC. But all the great street demonstrations of recent years were from the right,” continued Ciro Nogueira. “It was a congressional assessment error to have given this opportunity to create a narrative that does not match reality or popular will.”
