CPI das Bets will hear influencer Virginia Fonseca and former BBB lawyer

The Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry that investigates online betting services, the Bets CPI, will hear the influencer Virginia Fonseca and lawyer Adélia de Jesus Soares to give testimonials on May 13 and 14. The two were summoned by the collegiate in the Senate as witnesses.

The requests of the two calls were made by Senator Soraya Tronicke (Somos-MS), who is the Rapporteur of the Bets CPI. According to Soraya, the presence of Virginia is important, as she is one of the main responsible for the dissemination of online betting companies on the internet. She has over 100 million followers adding her profiles on social networks Instagram, Tiktok and Youtube.

“In recent years, the influencer has been involved in marketing campaigns for bookmakers, using their broad base of followers to publicize these activities. Given the impact of their communication on consumer behavior, it is essential to understand the scope and ethical responsibilities associated with such actions, especially in a segment with potential social implications, such as online bets,” said the senator.

Soraya Tronicke pointed out that, from the hearing of Virginia, it will be possible to investigate ethical conflicts in the advertisements of betting houses, and discuss the need for new regulations in the field. The request was approved in November last year, but this is the first time that the influencer’s hearing has been on the commission’s agenda.

Adelia is also known on the internet, having more than two million followers on Instagram. She participated in the 2016 edition of the Big Brother Brazil program, broadcast by TV Globoand often defends digital influencers in court proceedings. One of the clients is Deolane Bezerra, investigated for alleged money laundering and promotion of illegal games. Deolane would be heard by the CPI, but the hearing was barred by decision of the Supreme Court Minister (STF) André Mendonça.

In September last year, Adelia was indicted by the Federal District Civil Police (PCDF) for the crimes of ideological falsehood and criminal association. The offenses are related to her performance with a foreign organization that structured and operated illegal games in the country.

According to Soraya Tronicke, Adelia should explain her participation in the company, as a way to clarify parliamentarians the crimes involving the bets with foreign participation.

“It is essential that the summoned clarifies the details of its participation in the investigated facts, the functioning of the illicit scheme and the eventual international connections associated with gambling practices and money laundering,” Soraya said in the application.

In March, Adelia was heard by the Bets CPI, but her hearing occurred confidentially. On the 29th, the lawyer would participate in a new session, but the testimony was not held because she was absent.

Last week, businessman Daniel Pardim was arrested in the act on charges of false testimony, by determination of Soraya. The episode occurred after Pardim refused to detail his participation in the company Peach Blossom River Technology, investigated for involvement with illegal betting and alleged participation in money laundering scheme.
