Crisis in the Milei government deepens with defeat in Congress
The Argentine newspapers pointed out that no government had recorded such a profound rejection to projects of the executive and spoke of “hard blow.”
Outside the congress, thousands of protesters celebrated. A “Federal March in Defense of the Public University” has mobilized Argentines in several cities. In Buenos Aires, the demonstration featured doctors and health officials at Hospital Garrahan and other hospitals, as well as unions, social organizations, students, teachers and scientists.
Milei promises to increase budget to 2026
On Monday, Milei announced a budget of 2026, which still needs to be approved by Congress. With milder speech, he referred to the fiscal adjustment of the first two years of government, saying that the worst had already passed. The speech, however, did not avoid defeat in Congress.
“The most difficult years to face were the first and that’s why we can say, like so many times, and despite the conjunctural turbulence that the worst has passed,” said the Argentine president.
