2024 elections: check out where the second round for mayor will take place

Datafolha survey shows that 57% of Brazilians are in favor of allowing presidents, governors and mayors to run for reelection, while 41% are contrary to the possibility. The other 2% said they did not know how to answer.

The result goes against the proposal of amendment to the Constitution (PEC) that aims to end reelection in the executive and unify the duration of the mandates and dates of the elections. The text, which was approved in May by the Senate Constitution and Justice Commission (PEC 12/2022), is now being processed in the Senate.

The Datafolha survey indicates, however, that 59% of the population supports the expansion of all elective mandates from four to five years, as provided for in PEC. Already 37% are opposed. The rest says it is indifferent or who does not know how to answer.

If the PEC in question is approved, changes would be made gradually and would not affect the 2026 elections.

The Datafolha survey shows greater support for presidential reelection among young people aged 16 to 24, the least educated and the poorest. The index is also higher among voters who approve the current government Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (74%) and the most identified with the PT (71%), compared to those who prefer the PL (48%), party of former President Jair Bolsonaro.

The number does not vary so much considering the color or religion of the interviewees.

Datafolha in person interviewed 2,004 people 16 years or older on June 10 and 11, in 136 municipalities in all regions of the country. The margin of error is two percentage points, more or less.
