Deaths in Spain reach 205; residents are without access to food and water
Some cities also remain without electricity supply. This is the case of Chiva, which recorded record rainfall during the flood. The city also has no phone signal and no water.
Thousands of volunteers from Valencia are organizing themselves on social media to help the hardest hit areas, which are in the south. According to the newspaper El País, they want to bring food and water to the population, as well as help with cleaning work.
Volunteers ask: water (for personal consumption and distribution), food that does not need to be cooked (such as sandwiches, fruits, tuna, olives, cold cuts, etc.), specific boots and gloves for cleaning water and mud, already charged portable chargers, candles, among others, reported the coordinator of a group of volunteers, on Telegram.
The government has asked volunteers “not to travel to the areas because the roads are collapsing and emergency services do not have access.” After publication on X, people responded to the comment questioning and criticizing the government’s speech, saying that the dispatch of emergency services is insufficient.
Important?
Since we are deeply grateful for the help that is being provided to the affected populations, we ask that you please not travel to these areas because the roads and emergency services are collapsing and cannot be accessed. Thanks for your understanding
