Denmark wants to ban social networks for children under 15: ‘Stealing time’
Denmark will ban the use of social media by children under 15 years of age, the Danish government said today. Parents will be authorized to give permission for young people aged 13 and over to access certain platforms.
The move follows Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen’s call in her opening speech to Parliament last month for restrictions to be imposed on social media for children, due to concerns about young people’s mental health. A majority of parties in Parliament said they would support the plan before a formal vote.
So-called social media thrives on stealing our children’s time, childhood and well-being and we are putting an end to it now. Caroline Stage Olsen, Minister for Digitalization
