Edinho Silva is elected national president of the PT with the support of Lula

The Workers Party (PT) elected this Sunday (6) Edinho Silva as its new national president.

With the support of President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, Edinho will take charge of the acronym for the next four years, taking office in August during the party’s national meeting.

Former treasurer of the campaign of Dilma Rousseff and former minister, Edinho Silva will have the mission of conducting the PT in a challenging electoral scenario, with the 2026 presidential elections on the horizon.

The former mayor of Araraquara (SP) will replace Senator Humberto Costa, who was holding a tampon mandate, and the previous management of Gleisi Hoffmann.

The election of Edinho was marked by a manual investigation process, due to the use of paper banknotes, and had the absence of the votes of Minas Gerais, whose claim was postponed and delayed the result in one day.

Edinho Silva is seen as a moderate profile politician, defender of the modernization of the party and the expansion of dialogue with different sectors of society.

The new president’s support plate, linked to the dominant current building a new Brazil (CNB), must ensure the continuity of the group in the PT’s national directory and executive.
