Federal Deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP) countered the accusations made by President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva that he would be practicing “terrorism” and “lick the trump boots” in his political actions in the United States.

In an interview with UOLEduardo said that he is not injuring national interests and that his performance aims to combat judicial activism in Brazil.

Since Donald Trump’s inauguration, Eduardo has worked in Washington to press for sanctions against Minister Alexandre de Moraes and other members of the Supreme Court (STF), who investigate former President Jair Bolsonaro and allies.

The deputy is officially licensed to his mandate and moved to Texas to dedicate himself entirely to these negotiations, which include the possibility of sanctions provided for in the magnitsky law.

In response to Lula’s criticism, Eduardo classified the president’s speech as “odious” and stated that his electorate comprises his work.

He also said he was “safe” in the United States, far from the reach of investigations in Brazil, and that if necessary, he will resign his mandate to remain abroad.

The deputy also pointed out that his performance does not constitute external interference, but the exposure of facts to the American authorities.

The tension between Brasilia and Washington increased by the possibility of sanctions against Moraes, which would have ignored the American authorities of the reach of their judicial decisions.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced restrictions on visas to foreign authorities involved in censorship of American citizens, which is interpreted as a message to the Brazilian minister.

Eduardo Bolsonaro also told UOL who does not intend to negotiate tariff relief for Brazilian products in the US, criticizing the Lula government’s economic policy.
