Europe promises to ensure Ukraine security in case of ceasefire and threatens Russia with sanctions
Macron said the “American support” to the “security guarantees” for Kiev will be finalized “in the coming days” and that the United States were “very clear” as to its participation. “There is no doubt about this,” said the French president.
European countries will apply new sanctions
“Ukraine has not chosen the war and accepted the unconditional ceasefire proposed by Donald Trump,” Emmanuel Macron insisted. On the other hand, “Russia remained firm in this permanent will of war, intensifying its attacks on civilians, with unacceptable results,” said the head of state.
Macron also stated that European countries will apply new sanctions “in coordination with the United States” if Moscow continues to reject peace. According to French President Washington agreed to collaborate more closely at future sanctions, especially those that will affect the oil and gas sectors of Russia.
Volodymyr Zelensky greeted the commitment made by the 26 countries. “I think today, for the first time in a long time, we have a first concrete advance so serious,” said the Ukrainian President in Paris, alongside Macron. But he insisted, “We have the support of the United States.”
