Expansion of Israeli attacks signals rejection of ceasefire, says Lebanon
In the Gaza Strip, Israeli bombings also continue. At least 55 Palestinians were killed and 186 were injured in attacks on Thursday (31).
Israeli statements and diplomatic signals that Lebanon has received confirm Israel’s stubbornness in rejecting the proposed solutions and insisting on the kill and destroy approach
Najib Mikati
The Prime Minister’s statement comes after expectations about a possible agreement this week. On Thursday (31), Israel’s Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, met with American officials to discuss a possible end to the conflict between the two countries.
On Wednesday (30), Mikati even told the press that he expected a ceasefire in the ”next hours or days”. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken confirmed that progress had been made in discussions, and some American representatives said that the agreement could occur before the presidential elections between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump.
The war that has raged in the Gaza Strip since October 7, 2023 has spread to Lebanon. Israel and Hamas ally Hezbollah fought a war on September 30, and at least 1,829 people have died in Lebanon since incursions intensified, according to an AFP report.
