Fachin suspends decision that prohibited sale of goods and properties to help BRB
The president of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), minister Edson Fachin, suspended the decision of judge Rômulo de Araújo Mendes that prohibited the sale of movable assets and public properties in the Federal District to help the capital of Banco de Brasília (BRB). The minister’s opinion was published on Friday night (24) and will be submitted to the Plenary, in a virtual session that will take place between May 8 and 15.
The decision by Araújo Mendes, of the Court of Justice of the Federal District and Territories (TJDFT), suspended sections of the law sanctioned by the DF government to reinforce the capitalization of BRB, which is facing the biggest crisis in its history amid a R$12 billion loss with “bad assets” purchased from Banco Master.

In the request to the STF, the government of the Federal District maintains that the decision causes serious harm to the administrative order by directly interfering in the exercise of the constitutional powers of the Executive Branch and neutralizing the concrete effects of a law regularly approved by the local Legislative Branch and sanctioned by the Chief Executive.
