Três dos quatro filhos de Edith Lemay e Sébastien Pelletier sofrem com doença que causa perda progressiva da visão

Three children with the same disease. DThe couple’s four children, Mia (15), Colin (11) and Laurent (9) have the disease gene. The second oldest, Léo (13), did not inherit the mutation. Retinitis pigmentosa is a rare hereditary condition that causes gradual degeneration of the retina.

“Our goal is for kids to have positive memories,” Lemay told Global News in 2024. “We want them to focus on what they can still do”, highlighted the mother.

During the trip, the family visited Namibia, Egypt, Türkiye, Mongolia and Indonesia, among other destinations. They had experiences such as safaris, trails in the Himalayas and balloon rides, always with the idea of stimulating children’s eyes and curiosity. “If you let them find their own limits, you’re always surprised at how capable they are,” Lemay told Global News.

Documentary

The family’s trajectory became the documentary “Blink”, produced by National Geographic. The production, launched in October 2024, shows behind the scenes of the trip and how the parents turned the diagnosis into a life project.
