GENIAL/QUEST: 41% are against amnesty and 36% defend a measure that includes Bolsonaro
GENIAL Survey/Quaest released on Tuesday, 16, points out that the possibility of amnesty is disapproved by 41% of Brazilian voters. Another 36% are favorable to everyone, including former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL); 10% advocate the measure, but only for the January 8 protesters; 13% did not know or did not respond.
It is the first research on the subject after Bolsonaro is convicted by the Supreme Federal Court (STF) in the coup plot. Quaest interviewed 2,004 people 16 years or older between September 12 and 14. The margin of error is 2 percentage points for more or less and the confidence level is 95%.
The rejection of amnesty is greater among the non -Lulista left (73%) than among voters who identify themselves as Lulis (58%). Supporting the proposal that includes Bolsonaro is similar among pockets (62%) and the non -scholarship right (61%).
Amnesty is the priority in the National Opposition Congress formed by Bolsonaro allies, sentenced to 27 years and 3 months in prison in the coup plot. After weeks of pressure, the opposition leader in the House, Luciano Zucco (PL-RS), said on Tuesday that the mayor, Hugo Motta (Republicans-PB), placed the urgency of the bill in voting on Wednesday, 17.
It is still unclear which text will be taken to the vote. Senate President David Alcolumbre (Union-AP) argues for the proposal to revise and reduce the penalties of people who were in the scammer acts of January 8, 2023. Already the pockets want what they call the “broad, general and unrestricted amnesty”. The measure would represent the total judicial forgiveness to Bolsonaro, the other convicted in the coup plot and those convicted of January 8.
“There is no amnesty half-bombs! We will only accept broad, general, unrestricted and immediate amnesty! Amnesty now,” published Senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ) on Tuesday, commenting on the possible vote of an alternative text.
