Governor of Sergipe is criticized for going to the Libertadores final after being removed
The governor of Sergipe, Fábio Mitidieri (PSD), faced criticism on social media after being caught this Saturday, 30, watching the final of the Copa Libertadores, in Buenos Aires, a few days after announcing on social media that he would take leave from his position to take care of health after facing pneumonia.
In a statement, the government of Sergipe said that governor Fábio Mitidieri has been on leave since November 26th, on a personal schedule, with his family, in Argentina, and that his removal was communicated to the state’s Legislative Assembly.
“The State certifies that the trip was paid for with its own resources, without any use of public funds. Out of respect for the population and the commitment to transparency that guides management, the State informs that the decision reflects the responsibility to separate official commitments from personal activities, ensuring maximum ethics in the use of public money”, says the note, adding that the governor also complied with the medical recommendation to withdraw from activities after a week of treatment for pneumonia.

He was hospitalized on November 15th, when he received the diagnosis, remaining in hospital treatment until the 17th. After discharge, he began to carry out his administrative schedule remotely, at his home.
On the 26th, Mitidieri announced via social media that he would be away for a few days to recover from pneumonia. “Speak, my people! I took a few days off to make sure my health is 100% after pneumonia. The government continues under the guidance of our deputy Zezinho Sobral. I thank you for your understanding and reaffirm my commitment to always be ready to serve our State and the people of Sergipe”, he wrote.

Mitidieri did not publish photos on social media at the Monumental, River Plate’s stadium in Buenos Aires where the championship final took place. He simply shared a photo with members of the team, accompanied by a caption celebrating the title: “After 89 minutes of playing the Libertadores final with one less, we won the long-awaited continental title, the Libertadores da América”.
The first lady, Érica Mitidieri, who also holds the position of state secretary of Social Assistance, Inclusion and Citizenship, shared a photo in her Instagram stories alongside her husband wearing the team’s shirt.
