Great-granddaughter of Dom Pedro II was the last to wear jewelry stolen from the Louvre

The value of the jewelry has not yet been disclosed. From an unknown creator, they were produced between 1800 and 1835 and They were located in Room 705, in the central windows of the Galeria d’Apollo, until they were stolen along with other items from the collection, in the early hours of Sunday.

As it was a set of jewels belonging to the last queen of France, Maria Amélia de Bourbon-Duas Sicilies, it has the value of representing the State and even appears in portraits of Dona Amélia Paulo Garcez Marins, director of the Museu Paulista at USP

Jewels were passed down as heirlooms through the family until they reached the great-granddaughter of Dom Pedro 2º. The oldest record of its existence is that of the purchase made by the Duke of Orléans, future Louis Philippe, for Hortense de Beauharnais, then queen of the Netherlands.

The set then passed to Maria-Amélie, queen of the French. She distributed her jewels among her grandchildren, reaching Louis Philippe, Count of Paris, then Philip, Duke of Orléans, and Isabelle Orléans and Jean Orléans, until it was inherited by her son Henri, Count of Paris (1908-1999) and his wife Isabelle Orléans and Bragança, the last to wear them.

Suspects reportedly arrived on a motorcycle, wearing a helmet and yellow vest. The crime occurred between 9:30 am and 9:40 am local time (4:30 am and 4:40 am in Brasília), on the eve of the museum opening its doors.
