Group of seven orcas sink family boat in the Atlantic Ocean; look
Orcas approached the boat and started hitting it with their heads and tails. “We had the first impact at the height of the vessel’s rudder. That’s when we realized that the orcas were attacking our boat,” Deparis told the press.
Blows from the orcas caused cracks in the vessel and water began to enter. Deparis explains that although his boat had pumps to drain the water, he realized it was going to sink.
Deparis went to prepare the lifeboat for him and his family, while his wife called the Portuguese coast guard. However, rescuers were not around, water continued to fill the boat, which caused the rescue vessel to break away.
French had to dive into the Atlantic Ocean to recover the lifeboat. “I had no choice and I couldn’t think much about what to do in that situation,” he explained.
Minutes later, they were rescued by a fishing boat that was nearby. Hours later, the family was taken to the ground by helicopter by the Portuguese Navy, and transported to Lisbon.
