The Institutional Security Office (GSI) replaced the protective bars around the Palácio do Planalto this Saturday as a security measure for the protest walk of federal deputy Nikolas Ferreira (PL-MG). The demonstration called by the parliamentarian to protest the arrest of former president Jair Bolsonaro and those involved in the 8th of January completes six days this Saturday. The route of around 240 km started in the interior of Minas Gerais and will end in Brasília this weekend.

In a statement, the GSI stated that the measure integrates security protocols at Palácio do Planalto. “The GSI informs that, due to the possibility of demonstrations scheduled in locations close to the presidential installation, the bars are used as a reinforcement measure, in accordance with security protocols.”

The Federal Highway Police (PRF) has issued warnings as it sees risks in the crowding of people during the route, and complaints about injuries made by participants. In a note, the corporation confirmed the sending of a letter to the deputy that “highlights the need to adopt actions to mitigate security risks, taking into account the responsibility of the parliamentarian as organizer of the walk”.

This Friday, Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), ordered the Federal District government to remove the camps set up near the Papuda Penitentiary Complex. On January 15, Jair Bolsonaro was transferred to the 19th Military Police Battalion, a building neighboring the complex and known as “Papudinha”.

Moraes’ decision responds to the request of the Attorney General’s Office (PGR), after a group of supporters installed tents in the area, displaying banners asking for amnesty for the politician.
