Haddad: Brazil will submit more bold proposals for the environment at COP30

Finance Minister Fernando Haddad said the Brazilian government will present the “boldest proposals for the environment” at the 30th United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP30), which takes place in November this year in Belém (PA).

“For example, the payment of environmental forest environmental services from tropical countries, the issue of the international carbon market. We are on the border of the world’s discussion of this and we have all the condition of continuing to lead,” said EBC’s “Good morning, Minister” program.

Haddad stated that the farm and the Ministry of the Environment are “intended” and that government initiatives on the biofuels agenda, clean energy, green titles and carbon market are advancing.

The minister also said that modern agribusiness is “increasingly sensitive” to environmental issues and cannot be held responsible for deforestation in the country. According to Haddad, the reduction of deforestation is opening global markets for the Brazilian agro and allowing Brazil to export already industrialized foods, not just fresh.

“We have an opportunity in this amazing environmental area,” said the minister. “We have to enjoy this advantage.”

Haddad added that he presented to President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva a proposal for a national data centers policy, eyeing the use of artificial intelligence, intensive in energy. “Brazil has energy left, clean. So we can attract investment here with intelligence,” he said.
