Haddad: conflict in Iran will determine a lot, but Brazilian economy is doing well
The Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad, said this Monday, 2, that it is too early to assess the impacts of the escalation of the conflict between the United States and Iran on macroeconomic variables, unless the conflict escalates even further.
According to him, the Ministry of Finance is monitoring the conflict, but highlighted that the Brazilian economy is doing well and that a possible escalation in the war will determine a lot of things. “We will wait and eventually be prepared for a worsening of the economic environment,” said the minister, in a quick conversation with journalists before entering the auditorium where he will give a master class for the beginning of the academic year for students at the Faculty of Economics and Administration (FEA) of the University of São Paulo (USP).

Lula has had good relations with the Iranian regime since his second term and tried, unsuccessfully, to broker a nuclear agreement with Turkey between Tehran and the Western powers.
According to Haddad, Brazil has an export surplus. “But no one is counting on this to take advantage, quite the contrary, Brazil hopes for a world of peace and tranquility”, pondered the minister, adding that President Lula has been an important international voice, in the sense of seeking peace and resolving conflicts, and has sought to strengthen the United Nations and the Security Council aiming for a peaceful environment.
“But we will wait and eventually prevent ourselves if there is a need for another measure. At this point we will monitor it with caution and eventually be prepared for a worsening of the economic environment, which at this moment is difficult to predict what will happen”, reiterated the minister.
