Haddad: If economy is well, chance to do well in the elections is greater

Finance Minister Fernando Haddad said on Friday, 13, that if the economy is well, the chance of reelection of President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva becomes greater. Haddad made the statement during a meeting held by the prerogative group when trying to dissociate the fiscal issue of government performance in the 2026 elections.

“I don’t think it will be the size of the deficit that will determine the election. If the economy is well, the chance of success in the election will be higher,” said the minister, adding that President Lula is proud of the fiscal frame.

Haddad stated that when he took over the Ministry of Finance and that his team found the need to make an adjustment in public accounts, many people, including from within their own party, was against.
