Haddad says Lula will be a candidate for reelection in 2026

Finance Minister Fernando Haddad said on Saturday, 27, that President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (PT) will be a candidate for reelection in 2026.

The minister is quoted as a possible candidate if Lula does not run, as it occurred in 2018. “He (Lula) is a candidate for president, yes,” Haddad said during an interview with Podcast 3 Irmãos.

One of the presenters mentioned that his aunt would like to vote for Haddad to president in 2030. “Send a hug to your aunt,” said the minister.

According to the minister, being a candidate depends on circumstances and fate. “If it wasn’t for the stab, would Bolsonaro be elected president? Possibly not.”

In recent speeches, Lula has reinforced his willingness to compete again for the presidency next year and that he will not be a candidate only if health does not allow. “There is only one hypothesis that I am not a candidate, if I have a health problem,” the petista said in an interview with SBT on September 9.
