Hamas appeals to mediators and says Israel carries out ‘criminal bombing’
Hamas and Israel have been exchanging accusations of breaking the agreement sealed by the US since day one of the ceasefire. While Netanyahu’s country claims that the delay in handing over the body of hostages delays the agreement, the extremist group claims that the bombings in the enclave have not stopped, leaving more than 90 people dead since then.
Until then, Israel called bombings in Gaza “targeted attacks” or claimed that extremists crossed territorial boundaries. Last weekend, dozens of Palestinians and three Israeli soldiers died in a new escalation of violence in the region, which threatened to dismantle the fragile agreement.
A member of Hamas’s political wing said the group was having difficulty recovering the bodies. “We continue to demand permission for heavy equipment to enter to complete the recovery of the remaining bodies,” said Suhail al-Hindi, in an interview with Al Jazeera.
“The Zionist enemy must understand that we are committed to the agreement and must stop falsely accusing us of violating it. The resistance has no interest in hiding or delaying the delivery of any prisoner’s body and we affirm our full commitment to the agreement,” he added.
Hamas stated that it remains committed to the ceasefire agreement. “We call on the mediators and guarantors of the agreement to take immediate action to pressure the occupation, contain their brutal escalation against civilians in the Gaza Strip, end their serious violations of the ceasefire agreement and hold them accountable.”
