Hamas requires permanent ceasefire; USA say that proposal is ‘unacceptable’
White House reported on Friday that Israel accepted a proposal for ceasefire in Gaza presented by the US. At the time, Hamas responded, however, that the terms of the agreement did not meet “the demands” of the extremist group. “The conversations will continue and we hope there will be a ceasefire in Gaza so that we can return all hostages home,” said White House spokesman Karoline Leavitt.

Press release
After a round of national consultations, and based on our high responsibility for our people and their suffering, the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) today presented his response to the latest US special proposal, Steve Witkoff, to the mediating brothers. This proposal aims to reach a permanent ceasefire, a comprehensive withdrawal of the Gaza Strip and to ensure the flow of help to our people and our people in the Gaza Strip.
As part of this agreement, ten living Israeli prisoners maintained by resistance will be released, as well as the return of eighteen bodies, in exchange for a number agreed upon Palestinian prisoners.

International pressure
Israeli attacks were intensified on May 17, when the army launched a new offensive. The objective stated by Israel is to eliminate Hamas, free the hostages and take full control of the enclave.
Since then, international pressure against the war has increased. On Sunday, US President Donald Trump said he hoped the situation at the enclave “arrives to the end as soon as possible.” Trump is Benjamin Netanyahu’s main ally in the conflict.
