‘History thanks you’: Hugo Motta celebrates resumption of dialogue between Lula and Trump

The president of the Chamber, Hugo Motta (Republicanos-PB), welcomed the meeting of the presidents of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, of the United States, and Donald Trump, which took place this Sunday in Malaysia. Motta added that when “leaders choose to talk, History is grateful.”

“I congratulate Presidents Lula and Donald Trump on today’s important meeting. I am happy to see that dialogue and diplomacy are once again at the center of relations between Brazil and the United States. When leaders choose to talk, History is grateful. It was like this in the great turning points of the world, always through words, never through silence. The Chamber continues to be at the disposal of our diplomacy, voting on important issues on the subject and committed to serving the country”, posted the President of the Chamber, on social media.

The bilateral meeting began at 3:30 pm (local time) — 4:30 am Brasília time —, in the Kuala Lumpur City Center (KLCC), as the Communications Secretariat of the Brazilian presidency had already confirmed. In total, it lasted about 50 minutes.

Mauro Vieira, Márcio Elias Rosa, from MDIC, and Audo Faleiro, a diplomat on the team of special presidential advisor Celso Amorim, follow the conversation alongside Lula. On the American side, there were Secretary of State, Marco Rubio; Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent; and Commerce representative Jamieson Greer.

Meeting lasted 50 minutes and discussed tariffs, political sanctions and regional tensions
