The installation is a Military Intelligence Center. Today, the Jber houses F-22 Raptor and continues to perform interceptions of Russian aircraft that approach the country’s airspace. The base has the Alaska Mission Operations Center, linked to the National Security Agency (Nos), responsible for collecting and analyzing strategic information.
Base also opens the doors to the public. Since 1990, the “Arctic Thunder Air Show “brings together thousands of visitors for air performances and military demonstrations.
Base origin
The base is close to Anchorage, Alaska’s largest city. JBBE was created in 2010 from the merger of Elmendorf Air Force Base, the US Air Force, and the Army’s Fort Richardson, within a process of reorganization of the US Department of Defense.
Emerged in World War II. The construction actually began in 1940, when the site was known as Elmendorf Field. Shortly thereafter, the area also housed Fort Richardson, aimed at army operations.
