What happened
According to the NHC, this is one of the most powerful land arrivals ever recorded in the Atlantic basin. Melissa gained strength quickly and reached the maximum category on Monday (27).
Now, according to a NOAA bulletin, the hurricane is moving towards the north-northeast, at around 13 km/h. A curve to the northeast with increased speed is expected today, followed by accelerated advancement on Wednesday (29) and Thursday (30).
The predicted trajectory indicates that Melissa’s core will cross western Jamaica in the coming hours and return to the Caribbean Sea. After that, the center should reach southeastern Cuba on Wednesday morning (29) and reach the southeast or central Bahamas later the same day.
