Hugo Motta triggers STF to maintain a suspension of proceedings against Alexandre Ramagem

The president of the Chamber of Deputies, Hugo Motta (Republicans-PB), announced on Tuesday (13) that the House filed a lawsuit in the Supreme Federal Court (STF) so that the case of Deputy Alexandre Ramagem (PL-RJ) is analyzed by the plenary of the Court.

The measure occurs after the first class of the Supreme Court last week, a decision that sought to suspend criminal action against branch, which could benefit other defendants, including former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL).

The House’s action, according to Motta, aims to ensure that the votes of the 315 deputies who supported the suspension of the action are respected.

The action was presented through an argument of non -compliance with fundamental precept (ADPF), a legal instrument used to question possible violations of the Constitution.

In an X publication, Motta stated that harmony between powers is only possible when there is tuning and mutual respect. The mayor pointed out that the wide vote in favor of the measure in the house required a firm response in defense of the position of Parliament.

The branch case involves five accusations, two related to crimes committed after his diploma as deputy in December 2022: qualified damage and deterioration of listed assets. Other crimes include armed criminal association, coup and abolition of the Democratic Rule of Law.

The decision of the Chamber to suspend the criminal action was overturned by the first class of the Supreme Court unanimously (5-0), with the ministers reaffirming that the prerogative of paralyzing criminal actions does not apply broadly to parliamentarians.

House movement also made room for discussions on other cases.

The Liberal Party (PL) requested that the House evaluate the suspension of the action against Deputy Carla Zambelli (PL-SP), accused of involvement in a hacker invasion of the National Council of Justice (CNJ) system.

In addition, there is the possibility of a similar request in favor of the former Minister of Communications Juscelino Filho (Brazil-MA Union), denounced by the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) for misappropriation of parliamentary amendments, which resulted in its departure from the Lula administration.
