‘I will continue to defend Palestine,’ says activist after being released from prison in the US

Mahmoud Khalil, aluno da Universidade de Columbia, em Nova York, foi preso pelo governo Trump no dia 8 de março

“The mere fact that I am here is a message that all attempts to repress pro-palestinas voices have failed,” Khalil said as he left the New York New York airport terminal, along with his wife Noor Abdalla, pushing a baby stroller.

The activist was received by dozens of euphoric sympathizers, among them the young reference of the leftiest wing of the Democratic Party, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

“Mahmoud Khalil was unjustly detained for 104 days by the Trump administration for political reasons, for defending the rights of Palestinians,” said New York representative in the Federal Chamber, accusing the president of trying to “intimidate” the American student movement with this emblematic case.

“This is not over. We should keep defending it,” he added.

Although it has been released, Mahmoud Khalil still faces a deportation process, as the US government tries to revoke the “Green Card” of this man born in Syria of Palestinian parents and newly formed at the prestigious Columbia University in New York.
