In act in SP, Boulos argues to stop 'Amnesty Light': 'There is no middle ground'

Federal Deputy Guilherme Boulos (PSOL-SP) said on Sunday, 21, during a demonstration on Paulista Avenue, that Congress needs to defeat what it called “Amnesty Light” to the convicts in the attacks of January 8. “There is no middle ground,” he said. The acts convened by union centrals, leftist parties and artists occur in at least 25 capitals and 30 other Brazilian cities this Sunday, 21, against amnesty to scammers and the PEC of armor.

In Paulista, the protest brings together about 42,400 people. A large Brazilian flag was extended near the MASP, in a counterpoint to the United States symbol taken by pockets for the pro-administration manifestation on September 7. The demonstration occurs amid criticism of the Amnesty Bill, which had an urgency approved in the House, and which was called the PL of Dosimetry by the rapporteur, Deputy Paulinho da Força (Solidarity-SP). The parliamentarian intends to present a text to reduce the penalties of convicted by scammer acts.

The House is also being criticized for approving the so -called Armage PEC, which makes it difficult to open criminal proceedings against parliamentarians by demanding the approval of Congress. The text is a reaction to measures from the Federal Supreme Court (STF) against congressmen.

The act brought together parties, social movements and union centrals in defense of punishment for scammers. In São Paulo, the protest takes place on Paulista Avenue, in front of the MASP. “There is no middle ground, there is no ‘amnesty light’. Let’s work against. We will bury the amnesty. It was clear that there is on one side who wants to defend a bandit with the PEC of armor and amnesty of coup. On the other, who is in favor of democracy and does not want this absurdity,” said Boulos.

At various times, protesters booed the mayor, Hugo Motta (Republicans-PB), the governor of São Paulo, Tarcisio de Freitas (Republicans), and former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL). The three were the main targets of the politicians who took turns in the sound car.

Tarcisio tried to articulate support for the amnesty proposal in Brasilia and was also quoted by Boulos in the speech. He questioned whether Tarcisio intends to be a presidential candidate and said the presidential track “was not made for coward.” Bolsonaro sponsored, the governor is today one of the main names on the right to the presidential dispute in 2026.

In the same tone as Boulos, Deputy Tabata Amaral (PSB-SP) criticized the prominent proposals in Congress. He said parliament needs to represent the demands of society again and not relieve scammers’ penalties. “They are desperate, they know what they have done and that they have no way out. We are much stronger. Brazil is showing a great resilience, we can not let the scammers go unpunished, if not the same thing we have seen can be repeated,” he said.

Deputy Ivan Valente (PSOL-SP) called the proposal approved by the “PEC of Bondery” Chamber and classified it as an articulation between the center and the pockets. “Deputies and deputies who want impunity to commit murders, corruption, robbery, fraudulent amendments, racism, pedophilia will end up in jail. Bandit’s place is in jail,” he said.

The messages of politicians and popular on Paulista Avenue also makes allusions to the beginning of the 2026 electoral dispute. Between songs and speeches, protesters pulled shouts of “Lula President”. Despite criticism of the PEC, the PT was not present in weight in the act. The president of the acronym, Edinho Silva, and Federal Deputy Rui Falcão (PT-SP) were in Paulista. The absence of other leaders occurred amid the malaise caused by the House vote, when 12 petist deputies supported the shield proposal.

Unlike other manifestations promoted by left parties, this time there was adhesion beyond the union centrals and social movements. The theme of sovereignty was also present in posters with phrases such as “live the sovereignty of Brazil” and “sovereignty is of the people.” The reactions were a response to the articulation of Deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL) with the US government to press the Supreme Court amid the conviction of former President Bolsonaro.
