In the midst of tariff, Mercosur increases import categories
The bloc also agreed to discuss Mercosur’s modernization at the Common Market Group meeting, scheduled for April 23 and 24. A new meeting among the chancels is scheduled for May 2.
The announcement was made after the meeting of Mercosur ministers, which took place today in Buenos Aires, with the presence of Brazilian chancellor Mauro Vieira.
To journalists, the minister stated that the meeting was “cordial and productive”.
Vieira stressed that the meeting was intended for Mercosur to be “stronger and more active and has better results at this time of great instability in the world and great challenges,” he told the column.
When asked if the ministers agreed to relax Mercosur, Vieira stated that “there was a commitment from the region of the four countries (Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay) and Bolivia to quickly finish agreements with AFTA (Asean free trade area) and the United Arab Emirates. Argentina has worked publicly for the bloc’s commercial flexibility with other countries.
“There was the formalization of a commitment of the region to finish quickly with the EFTA Emirates EFTAs and we will analyze possibilities that can be taken together to have ways to have other agreements, other regions,” Vieira said without specifying the United States.
