Iran accelerates uranium enrichment for nuclear weapons, despite US pressure
Iran has accelerated the pace of production of its 60% enriched uranium reserves, close to the 90% needed to produce nuclear weapons, highlights a confidential report from the International Atomic Energy Agency (AIEA) consulted by AFP on Saturday (31).
“This considerable increase in the production and accumulation of uranium highly enriched by Iran, the only state without nuclear weapons that produces this type of nuclear material, is a cause for great concern,” wrote the UN nuclear agency in the report.
Tehran’s cooperation is “less than satisfactory,” the text said, prepared at the request of the Western powers.
