Bolsonaro's allies say Temer for the security of Zambelli in Italian prison

The Italian Public Ministry gave a favorable opinion to the extradition of federal deputy Carla Zambelli (PL-SP), as reported this Wednesday (22) by the Attorney General’s Office (AGU).

The decision still needs to be analyzed by the Italian court, responsible for authorizing the parliamentarian’s sending to Brazil.

Zambelli has been held under precautionary measures since July 29, at the Rebibbia women’s penitentiary in Rome. The arrest was ordered by the Italian court after the deputy was included in Interpol’s red flag, a measure that is applied to internationally wanted people and indicates a risk of flight.

Conviction and escape

The deputy was sentenced by the Federal Supreme Court (STF) to 10 years in prison for the crimes of invading the National Justice Council (CNJ) systems and inserting false documents, which occurred in 2023.

Before the sentence became final, Zambelli left the country and traveled to Italy, which led to his inclusion on the international wanted list.

In July, she was located and arrested on the outskirts of Rome, where she remains detained pending the extradition process.

Processing of the process

The favorable opinion of the Italian Public Prosecutor’s Office is one of the decisive steps towards extradition. After the demonstration, the case will be analyzed by the Italian Court, which will determine whether the parliamentarian will be handed over to the Brazilian authorities.

The AGU works in cooperation with Itamaraty and the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) to monitor the process with the Italian authorities, based on the bilateral extradition treaty between Brazil and Italy.
