Itamaraty expresses serious concern with military climbing in the Middle East
Through a note released on Sunday afternoon, 22, the Brazilian government expressed “serious concern” with military escalation in the Middle East, hours after the US attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities.
In the text, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE) said that the government “condemns vehemently in this context, military attacks of Israel and, more recently, from the United States, against nuclear facilities, in violation of the sovereignty of Iran and international law.”

Itamaraty reinforced the earlier position by former Chancellor and current special advisor to the Presidency of the Republic, Celso Amorim, that any attack armed with nuclear facilities represents a transgression of the United Nations (UN) and standards of the International Atomic Energy Agency (AIEA).

“Armed actions against nuclear facilities represent a serious threat to the life and health of civilian populations, exposing them to the risk of radioactive contamination and large-scale environmental disasters,” MRE added.
The Brazilian government also reinforced its position in favor of the exclusive use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes. And he said he rejects “firmly” any form of nuclear proliferation, “especially in regions marked by geopolitical instability, such as the Middle East.”
Finally, the MRE spoke in the “urgent need” of diplomatic solution that stops the cycle of violence and open an opportunity for peace negotiations. “The negative consequences of the current military escalation can generate irreversible damage to peace and stability in the region and worldwide and the regime of non -proliferation and nuclear disarmament,” he said.
