Former president Jair Bolsonaro is expected to be discharged from the Intensive Care Unit within the next 24 hours after showing a significant improvement in his bilateral bronchopneumonia, according to a new medical bulletin released this Monday (23).

A text released by the medical team states that the former president remains “clinically stable, with favorable evolution and no complications”. The bulletin also highlights that Bolsonaro continues with intravenous antibiotic therapy, intensive clinical support and respiratory and motor physiotherapy.

The bulletin is signed by general surgeon Claudio Birolini; by cardiologists Leandro Echenique and Brasil Caiado; by the coordinator of the General ICU of DF Star, Antônio Aurélio de Paiva Fagundes Jr.; and by the hospital’s general director, Allisson B. Barcelos Borges.

Jair Bolsonaro has been admitted to the ICU of the DF Star hospital since March 13 after waking up with episodes of vomiting, dizziness and high fever in the 19th Military Police Battalion of the Federal District, popularly known as Papudinha.

A tomography performed at the hospital confirmed bilateral bronchopneumonia, with greater involvement of the left lung, which led to intensive therapy such as intravenous antibiotics the previous week.

Bolsonaro’s hospitalization could lead to a change in the former president’s prison regime, who is currently serving his sentence in a closed regime and could have it returned to home to facilitate medical care.
