Justice of Spain acquit one of the accused of killing young Brazilian gay

The four were tried and convicted in January 2025, three years after the crime. At the time, the Spanish court also determined that the four compensate the victim’s family at $ 1.9 million.

Defendants acted “without empathy” and with much “cruelty”, said the Spanish justice in condemning them. The court of the European country stressed that the victim was left “played in the middle of a roundabout, unconscious and with a bloody face.”

As the decision was issued at first instance, the defendants were able to appeal the judgments received. However, they remain in prison to the definitive conviction or cancellation of the process.

Remember the crime

Samuel Luiz was 24 when he was beaten to death. The Brazilian, who worked as a nursing assistant and lived in Spain of the child, was the victim of homophobic violence on July 3, 2021.
