Kassab makes himself 'available' to be Caiado's vice-president in the race for president

The national president of the PSD, Gilberto Kassab, signaled that he could be vice-president of the former governor of Goiás Ronaldo Caiado (PSD), the party’s pre-candidate for the Palácio do Planalto. However, Kassab highlighted that the decision on the composition of the ticket will be up to the candidate and the party. The demonstration took place in a post on social media this Saturday, 30.

“As president and member of the PSD, I make myself available to listen and accept any collective decision, knowing in advance that it will be the best for the future of our project”, he stated.

Kassab highlighted, however, that the final say on the formation of the ticket will be from Caiado, after consultation with the party. “Obviously, the final word must go to our candidate, after hearing all party bodies and all of our supporting forces,” he wrote.

The demonstration takes place after PSD leaders, such as Jorge Bornhausen and Heráclito Fortes, defended their name for vice on Caiado’s ticket. In the post, Kassab said he received the nominations with “honor”, but considered that the definition depends on political articulations and understandings also outside the party.

The movement occurs amid rearrangements in the right-wing camp, given the wear and tear of Senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ), after publicizing his relationship with Daniel Vorcaro, owner of Banco Master. Last week, former governor of Minas Gerais Romeu Zema, Novo’s pre-candidate for President, admitted the possibility of forming a ticket with Caiado. In the same vein, the former governor of Goiás also stated that there is room for an alliance between the two in a single candidacy.

In the latest Datafolha survey, Caiado scored 4% of voting intentions and Zema, 3%. They are far from President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), with 40%, and Flávio, who had 31%.
