Kim promised new military actions. According to him, North Korea “will undoubtedly develop additional military measures” to respond to the reinforcement of US forces, although it has not detailed what these initiatives would be.
Kim and Trump signaled approach
On Monday (29), KCNA said Kim was open to a meeting with Trump. North Korean state media stressed that the leader had a personal bond with the US president during his first term. “I still have good memories of Trump,” Kim said at a Supreme Popular Assembly session in Pyongyang.
In August, Trump also mentioned Kim. During his visit to Washington in August, South Korean President Lee Jae Myung told Trump that he eagerly waited for Trump to play a golf match with the North Korean leader. “One day I will see him … He was very good with me,” replied the American president.
The two met in Singapore in June 2018 for an unprecedented dome. The meeting was held after months of hostile rhetoric, with Trump comments about “totally destroying” North Korea and that Kim was a “fog man on a suicidal mission.”
The meeting yielded a non -binding statement of Pyongyang with the commitment of “complete denuclearization” of the Korean peninsula. Trump joked that, after that meeting, Kim had written him “beautiful letters” and “we fell in love.”
